As the season prepares to resume, the spotlight will still be on the Lakers during this campaign. Did the franchise make the right choice in entrusting the role of coach to JJ Redick? An elder strongly disagrees.
Do the Lakers have the weapons to win the championship NBA ? With Anthony Davis and LeBron James, we will certainly have to be wary of JJ Redick’s men, despite a relatively discreet summer. Apart from two rookies in the draft, the offseason was long and painful for fans, who expected better after an elimination against the Nuggets.
But the franchise also took a big risk by giving the coaching job to Redick. It was necessary to find a replacement for Darvin Ham, but Redick remains a novice and finds himself thrown into the deep end overnight. It has been very popular since this resumption at Los Angelesbut it is the results that will determine its success.
The Lakers criticized for their recruitment
We will have to wait before judging, but this arrival is still controversial today, as at the time of signing. Latest review? That of Steve Francis, former Rockets player in particular. He did not hesitate to tackle this choice, especially because Redick has only proven himself in a podcast.

New Lakers target divides old one: “I find it very surprising”
Steve Francis on signing JJ Redick : “It can’t be just because he comes from Duke, that he criticizes people on television. He seems like a good coach, but all these people with experience who are ignored because it’s the trendy thing with this generation, just because these guys do these podcasts…”
Is Redick a coach through his podcast? This obviously played a role, especially since he started one with LeBron James a few months before becoming coach. It’s hard not to see the link, it remains to be seen whether the Angelinos made the right decision. Otherwise, the front office will add one more error to its already full CV at this level.
But fans on X disagree.
@LeCap623 : “It seems that he is mostly bitter”
@BracketNky : “Can we let him do his job first? »
@JimColeIsHere : “Don’t worry, LeBron remains the head coach. »
@Heatflyy : “He will probably already be better than Steve Nash”
Too early to know if JJ Redick will be a great coach in the Lakers and in the league in general. But Steve Francis is not convinced, especially given his lack of experience. Let’s hope the Angelinos have no regrets.
