Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons has been the subject of jokes from many members of the NBA community due to his availability or lack of availability, so much so that fans and former players believe he “robbed” the New York team, given the his big contract. The Australian international is aware of the chatter and explained his story, saying he would have played more for the Brooklyn Nets if he didn’t have his chronic back injury which he has failed to shake in recent seasons.
“People are making comments saying I’m stealing. No. When I got that contract, I was playing at a very high level. Unfortunately I had some major injuries. But for someone to say that, it’s disrespectful. (But) people can say whatever they want . They have to live with it,” Simmons said in an exclusive interview with Brian Lewis of the New York Post. Simmons is entering his contract year and will make around $40 million before becoming an unrestricted free agent. Now this is his last chance to prove he’s worthy of another big contract.
