Borussia Dortmund and the German national team: This is currently not a success story. Numerous stars moved to BVB as national players – and were soon no longer considered. The low point: The home European Championship with a miserable three Dortmund players, one of whom was nominated.
But things continued: In September, Julian Nagelsmann demoted Karim Adeyemi to the U21, and now Maximilian Beier had to follow him. Both BVB stars knew how to deal with the setback. After Adeyemi, Beier also made a big statement in the first game.
Borussia Dortmund: Beier with a strong response to demotion
Nico Schlotterbeck, Waldemar Anton, Pascal Groß – these are the only senior national players that Borussia Dortmund currently has. Even after five injury setbacks, Julian Nagelsmann didn’t think about nominating other BVB stars like Julian Brandt, Emre Can, Niklas Süle or Felix Nmecha. And Maximilian Beier also looked into the tube. Like the (currently injured) Adeyemi, he was initially demoted to the U21 team.

As a Hoffenheim gem still at the home European Championship, the youngster is hardly in Dortmund and out of the DFB-A team. But he bears it with composure. In his first game for the U21s, the 21-year-old needed just eight minutes to find the correct answer to Nagelsmann’s shot.
In Regensburg he scored in the early stages of the European Championship qualifier to make it 1-0 against Bulgaria and was also one of the key offensive assets of Antonio di Salvo’s team afterwards. After a shaky phase after the break, the youngster from Borussia Dortmund won 2-1 with the U21s and thus secured his ticket to the 2025 European Championship.
More news:
Strong debut from Maximilian Beier – and a strong response to the demotion by the national coach. Julian Nagelsmann will not have missed this either.
