Cuba won the title in the II Baseball World Cup5
It is an inclusive discipline. Women and men share the same scenario on equal terms and it is not mere theory. It has occupied the pages of our magazine several times, where we have made reference to its similarity to the popular “four corners”, which made us assume from the beginning that it would bring success.
And so it has been. As happened in Mexico two years ago, in the World Cup debut of this sport, the Antillean team once again lifted the crown in the world event. Now, in the recently concluded tournament organized by Honk Kong, our team went undefeated, and only lost one set during the entire match.
They had Japan in the final once again, as on Aztec soil. In the final match, held early this Saturday morning (Cuba time), the score was 2-0, with partial scores of 16-1 by the law of mercy in the first set and 7-5 in the second.
In the opening set, Cristian Basabe (6-5) and Haila González (6-3) stood out, both with five RBIs. In addition to Osvaldo Amador (6-6). In the complement Yiliena Otamendez had the best numbers (5-4).
Before, France won the bronze after beating Venezuela, also via a 2-0 sweep.
Let us remember that this discipline has given us Cubans several joys. In addition to the two-time world championship, they were youth champions in Türkiye 2023 and in the Pan American Games in Venezuela 2024.
So the baseball5 throne has the colors of our flag printed on it. Congratulations champions!
