Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner became the winner of the Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai. In the final, the top-seeded player defeated the “spider” four of Serbia’s Novak Djokovic 7:6 (4), 6:3. It was the seventh tournament triumph of the season and the seventeenth of his career for the world number one.

The first set brought the dominance of the players on the serve. His win had to be decided by a tiebreak, in which Sinner built a lead of 4:0 and 5:1 and did not let go of his advantage.
In the second act, the fourth game was decisive, the Italian used the second break point on Djokovic’s serve. In the ninth game, he converted the very first match point and adjusted the mutual balance with the Serb to 4:4.
“It was a very difficult match, playing against Novak is of course one of the most difficult challenges. I am very satisfied with how I managed the situation. In the first set he served excellently, I could not find a way to break him. I played a very good tiebreak, which it gave me confidence to start the second set well,” said Sinner for the official ATP website.
He also commented on his opponent, with whom he won the past three matches: “I don’t have a special recipe for him because he doesn’t have any weaknesses. You have to try to take the little chances he gives you, but there aren’t many during the match. He’s a legend in our sport, he’s very difficult to play against, so I’m very happy.”
The Italian achieved his personal best and claimed his 65th victory of the season. During it, he won the Australian Open and US Open Grand Slam tournaments and also succeeded in Rotterdam, Miami, Halle, Cincinnati and on Sunday he also won in Shanghai. He reached the finals in Indian Wells and Beijing. Thanks to this, regardless of other results, he will end 2024 as world number one.
