ROVIGO – Two homages to history, an easy victory as expected and a few too many gaps in the game characterize the debut of the FemiCz Rugby Rovigo in his 81st Serie A Elite championship.
The 45-25 inflicted on the Vicenza Rangers, with the former Riedo on the field and the Rodinese Piva and Bordin in the stands, gives the 5 points to keep up with the other big teams, all victorious with the bonus. Before the start, a bouquet of flowers on the monument to Maci Battaglini and under the stands he handed over a bouquet of flowers to the former captain Luke Mahoney of the Legends tie for over 100 appearances.
During the interval, the Itas Mutua Rovigo teams were shown as Italian under 18 baseball champions and promoted to the A1 softball league.
THE NEWS
The start suggests the right approach asked by coach Davide Giazzon to Rovigo to avoid surprises against a weaker opponent. Like the debut defeat last season against Lyons. First action, kick for offside on a high ball recovered by Belloni. Penaltouche at 5 meters. Maul. Visentin breaks away, Moscardi-Thomson combination and goal. Just 1’36” have passed. The premise is that of the harvest. With the bonus goal to be reached soon. Instead, to see it you have to wait for the start of the recovery in numerical superiority. With a more difficult first half than expected. Where Vicenza is superior in the melee (5 kicks against in closing). He builds the Carrio drop with a series of percussion. He takes advantage of the drive, after 3 consecutive fouls, for Vunisa’s try to make it 10-8.
IT BONUS AL 43′
FemiCz always remains in the lead, but makes mistakes in attack and struggles to find its way into the score. He succeeds with two actions where a wingman awarded the man of the match and a young player are decisive: Andrea Visentin and Francesco Bini. The number 9 scores on a play wide from scrum, supporting the winger’s break. At the end Visentin invents a deep kick from the maul and Bini puts pressure on the defender finding a foul 5 meters away. Quick punishment e Matteo Moscardi scores the first of his two tries. Repeated at the start of the second half (43′), in turn supporting a great individual play by Belloni and collecting Vaccari’s kick, to which the fullback passes the ball, in the goal area (31-11).
Here Rovigo in double numerical superiority, fouls on Bolognini and Moscardi, can spread after Belloni’s try in support of Lertora’s break in the second phase off the scrum. Instead he is satisfied and almost shuts down. He becomes more undisciplined, the foul count is 15-15, as many as 5 in the last 10′ when he was asked not to commit any. He confirms the difficulty in defending mauls and pick and gos, conceding the markings of Chimenti-Borrell and Avila-Recio. He only scored on an errant throw in Vicenza’s defensive touch, which ended up in the hands of Della Sala, who reacted to catch it, sprint and change direction in the short range until the goal. The same prop, however, then gets three kicks against him and the yellow card.
The journalists in the stands joke: we revoke the man of the match award given to Mogliano in the cup! But it is no joke that Rovigo will have to fix several things in view of the difficult trip to Rome on Saturday against the Fiamme Oro.
