SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS.- Part of Erik González’s reasons for joining the Leones del Esgido practices early was the fact that he was “left hungry” after not winning the championship last season.

This is what the shortstop said this weekend, after an exhibition game against the Eastern Stars.

“We were left with that hunger last year, and that is an inspiration for this year, to continue giving our best and I feel comfortable with the chemistry and spirit that the team has,” he said.

In the 2023-2024 campaign with the Scarlets, González hit .321, with 28 RBIs, 25 runs scored in 49 games, finishing second in the voting for the Most Valuable Player.

In reference to that season, the Puerto Plata native said “I have never thought about numbers. Mine has been to give 100 percent on the field. The only thing I can control is playing hard and competing every time I step on the field. The goal has always been to win,” he declared.

The shortstop also highlighted the vibe that is felt from the moment one joins the team, considering that “the names don’t matter, if there is no chemistry and harmony things don’t flow and I have noticed great energy in everyone with the same approach.”

González also highlighted that there are few gaps in the team heading into the start of the season, especially the center line, of which he is a part along with names like Jean Segura and Martín Maldonado, both with vast experience in the Major Leagues.
