SHANGHAI – Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic plans to continue his professional career in the next season as well.

The holder of a record 24 Grand Slam titles stated this after an unsuccessful final match at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai, in which he lost to world number one Italian Jannik Sinner.

For the 37-year-old Serb, it was the third loss against Sinner in the past four confrontations. Djokovic said he has no intention of following in the footsteps of Spain’s Rafael Nadal, who announced the end of his successful career this week. “I don’t know what the future holds yet, but I’ll try to go with the flow to see how I feel at the moment. But I plan to compete next season as well.” the AFP agency quoted the long-time leader of the world ranking.

In 2024, Djokovic failed to extend the record collection of Grand Slam trophies held by Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. The last time he celebrated was last year at the US Open. However, Djokovic succeeded in the Olympic tournament in Paris, which was the only major title missing from his rich collection.

In Shanghai, he fell short of the jubilee 100th title on the circuit, which would have made him the third player in history to reach triple figures. Before him, only the American Jimmy Connors (109) and the Swiss Roger Federer (103) succeeded. “It’s not a ‘live or die’ goal for me. I think I’ve achieved all my biggest goals in my career. Right now it’s about the Grand Slams and still seeing how far I can push my bar.” Djokovic added.
