Dmitry Bivol’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, claimed that the fight for the undisputed light heavyweight champion had been robbed by the score given by the judges when the boxer lost against Artur Beterbiev in Riyadh, Sunday (13/10/2024). Bivol, who experienced swelling in his left eye, had to settle for the WBA championship belt that had been his until now and had to change hands to Beterbiev after the bearded boxer won with a score of 116-112 (Pawel Kardyni), 115-113 (Glenn Feldman) and 114- 114 (Manuel Oliver Palomo).
Post-fight, Hearn criticized the score. He was emphatically not happy with the decision and believed that Bivol had done enough to achieve victory.
That statement seemed to be echoed by fellow promoter Frank Warren, who also thought that Bivol had done enough to win. “In one of the biggest fights of our generation, the most important fight in Dmitry Bivol’s life, you give him four rounds? That’s disgusting,” said Hearn, quoted by Boxingnews.
“You heard Beterbiev’s corner in round 10. They told him he had to knock him out. Top Rank knew he lost. I was completely confused and disgusted. I don’t want to disrespect Artur Beterbiev. He and Dmitry Bivol are two of the greatest boxers of our generation “That judge should never work again for Bivol in a fight of this magnitude is disgusting,” Hearn regretted.
Hearn firmly stated that Bivol had been robbed by this scoring decision. “Of course. He was robbed of an undisputed championship tonight. They don’t believe they can get away with this tonight.”
Meanwhile, Warren agrees with Hearn. He expressed his dissatisfaction about this result. “He deserves a rematch. If I were in that position, I would be angry too. I feel Bivol won him by a few rounds.”
If we refer to the data revealed by CompuBox, Bivol managed to land 50 percent of his strong punches, while Beterbiev only threw 29 percent.
Bivol landed 33 powerful punches over the first six rounds while Beterbiev landed 23 punches.
Beterbiev turned things around over the last six rounds by landing 67 powerful punches, while Bivol landed 51 punches. In the 11th and 12th rounds, Beterbiev launched 29 strong shots, while Bivol launched 19 shots.
Both fighters were only able to land four punches or less in eight of the 12 rounds contested. As a result, one judge scored this fight a draw (114-114). The other two judges scored it 115-113 and 116-112 for Beterbiev.
