Argentine successes in the Pan American Under 23 Squash Championship

Argentina won the silver medal in mixed doubles with the Portabales/Rivero couple and the bronze medal in men’s doubles with Albelo/Portabales.

In the Pan American Under 23 Squash Championship, the Argentine delegation achieved outstanding performances, achieving a silver medal and a bronze medal in the doubles category. The mixed duo composed of Segundo Portabales and Paula Rivero won the silver medal after an exciting journey in the tournament. In their debut, they beat the Brazilian couple Isaias and Laura Silva 2-1 (11-9, 7-11 and 11-10) in the quarterfinals. Subsequently, they advanced to the semifinal where they defeated the Paraguayans Damián Casarino and Fiorella Gatti, also by 2-1 (11-6, 10-11 and 11-10). However, in the final, the Argentine couple lost to the Ecuadorians David Costales and María Buenaño, ending their participation with the runner-up position.

In the men’s doubles category, Ramiro Albelo and Santiago Portabales won the bronze medal. In their first match, they beat the Guyanese Michael Alphonso and Samuel Ince-Carvalhal with a solid 2-0 (11-7 and 11-7). Then, in the quarterfinals, they defeated the Ecuadorians Gabriel Costales and Antonio Vaca, also 2-0 (11-9 and 11-10). However, in the semifinal they met a strong Colombian couple, Juan Irisarri and Juan Torres, who beat them 2-0 (11-2 and 11-8), thus securing third place in the championship.

In the women’s field, the duo of Candela Bernard and Lola Aznárez failed to advance beyond the quarterfinals, where they were defeated by the Ecuadorians Fabiana García and María Emilia Falconi with a score of 2-0 (11-3 and 11- 6).
