Aleksandar Pavlovic has impressed with consistently strong performances at FC Bayern this season, while Leon Goretzka is hardly getting any playing time.
Munich – Last season Aleksandar Pavlovic established himself at FC Bayern as a regular player. His achievements did not go unnoticed: national coach Julian Nagelsmann nominated him for the home European Championships. However, the 20-year-old had to cancel at short notice due to tonsillitis. Nevertheless, he remained in the sights of the national coach and soon afterwards celebrated his debut in the German senior national team. Since then he has been an integral part of the DFB squad.
Pavlovic and Goretzka are good friends
This season too, Pavlovic is in defensive midfield alongside Joshua Kimmich – surprising for some, as there were several contenders for this position before the season: Leon Goretzkanewcomer João Palhinha and also Konrad Laimer.
However, Pavlovic was able to prevail through his consistent performances and win the internal duel. This is particularly bitter for Goretzka, who was not even in the matchday squad on several occasions and is currently only the fifth option in the six-man position.
In an interview with the BILD Pavlovic revealed that Leon Goretzka remained one of his closest friends in the team despite the difficult situation: “It’s true, I get on very well with Leon. It’s sad for him, but he still supports me. He’s always happy when I play well.”
Goretzka is thinking about a change in the winter
FC Bayern wanted to sell Leon Goretzka in the summer, but the 29-year-old firmly rejected a transfer. Now the former DFB star seems to be having second thoughts himself. According to that kicker Bayern are planning to make another attempt to remove the midfielder from the payroll in the winter.
