Cancún Badminton Tournament concludes 24 – Diario Cambio 22 – Peninsula Libre

This event brought together more than 100 competitors from various parts of the Mexican Republic

CANCUN, Q. ROO. October 15.- The sixth edition of the Cancun 2024 Badminton Tournament was held with great success at the Kuchil Baxal gym, the birthplace of this sport in Quintana Roo.
The event brought together more than 100 competitors distributed in 13 categories, offering three days of intense competition. The athletes from the municipality of Benito Juárez were the main protagonists, winning a total of 31 medals.


Six schools in the municipality stood out: Badminton Cancún Cecilio Chi, Kuchil Baxal, and Selección, as well as Universidad Anáhuac, La Salle and Masters Cancún.
Among the most notable winners are Ricardo Orozco, champion of the Men’s Open category; Daniela Cruz, winner of the Women’s Open; Eric de la Garza, champion in men’s under 17 and Ivanna Beltrán, winner in women’s under 17.


The representatives of Mexico City shone for their efficiency, obtaining three gold medals thanks to the brothers Novak and Félix Gamborino. Novak was crowned in the Under 11 and Under 13 categories, while Félix won the Under 15 category.
The state of Yucatán also stood out, achieving five medals, with Luka Goy as its best representative by winning silver in the Under 15 and bronze in the Intermediate category. Elmer Ortega won second place in the Men’s Open category.


Veracruz did not leave empty-handed, as Duan Landa achieved second place in the Under 17 category. For their part, the municipalities of Solidaridad and Othón P. Blanco added 4 and 3 medals respectively. Chetumal’s Luis Martin and Héctor Montalvo went 1-2 in the Intermediate category, while Luis Balam and Raúl Castillejos from Solidaridad won two golds in the Under 9 category.
This annual tournament reaffirms the commitment of Cancún and Quintana Roo to the development of new generations of athletes in badminton, a discipline that continues to rise in the region.
