This person requested anonymity to speak with theAssociated Press since the pact has not yet been officially announced.

The Lions (4-1) will face the leaders of the North section of the National Association, the Vikings (5-0) of Minnesota, Sunday, in a game which could have a direct impact on the race for the title of the section and the rankings for the NFL playoffs. The Lions won the Northern National title last year, obtaining their first banner in three decades.

McNeill is the latest player to agree to a long-term contract extension from the Lions, joining quarterback Jared Goff, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and tackle Penei Sewell.

Lions general manager Brad Holmes selected McNeill in the third round, 72nd overall, in the 2021 NFL Draft, and he became one of the league’s best tackles.

McNeill tied a career high with two sacks in a one-sided 47-9 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. He had five sacks last season, the most by a Lions interior tackle since Ndamukong Suh’s eight and a half in 2014.
