DON’T TOUCH MY CHURCH – The bishopric of Nancy-Toul is offering three deconsecrated churches and chapels for sale, angering some residents of Meurthe-et-Moselle
Between April 2023 and June 2024, the Church put up for sale several deconsecrated Catholic places of worship, in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselleaccording to information from France 3 Grand-Est. Indeed, the bishopric of Nancy-Toul has offered for sale the Chapelle-des-Mineurs de Chaligny, Notre Dame de Franchepré churchin the village of Jœuf and the church of Crusnes.
But these sales aroused the wrath of several residents. Questioned by our colleagues from France 3, historian Pierre Toussenot returned to the causes of this mobilization, while Catholic places of worship are less and less frequented by the population.
A “strong attachment” linked “to industrial heritage”, according to the historian
For Pierre Toussenot, “there is a strong attachment because these buildings are associated with industrial heritage”. The buildings put up for sale were built in a context of strong industrial activity in the department.
