Two Voltigeurs among the stars of the week

HOCKEY. Two players from the Voltigeurs de Drummondville were selected among the stars of the last week in the QMJHL.

Returning from Tampa Bay Lightning training camp, Ethan Gauthier didn’t take long to get going. In three games on opposing ice, the 19-year-old forward collected two goals and four assists. Employed in the first trio with Luke Woodworth and Adam Cavallin, the Drummondvillois has forged a differential of +6.

For his part, Riley Mercer signed two victories in as many outings, including one by shutout. The 20-year-old goalkeeper maintained a goals against average of 1.00 as well as an efficiency rate of 0.971%. The Newfoundlander was also named among the stars of the week across the Canadian Hockey League.

Undefeated in six outings since the start of the season, Riley Mercer leads the QMJHL in terms of goals against average (1.17) and save percentage (0.963%).

The title of MVP of the last week was awarded to defenseman Tomas Lavoie of the Cape Breton Eagles. The 18-year-old had three goals and two assists in three games on the road.

The QMJHL’s Most Outstanding Team of the Week is completed by forwards Justin Poirier, of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, and Cole Burbidge, of the Eagles, as well as defenseman Nate Tivey, of the Saint-Jean Sea Dogs.
