Padua, 16 October 2024 – Another Padova Calcio footballer in the storm afterwards the condemnation in the first instance a Michael Liguori per sexual violence: also the midfielder Carmine Cretella was involved in an investigation on a similar case. It was the father of the woman who presented the complaint alleged victim, 14 years old at the time of the facts, in 2020. The footballer was sent to trial in front of the Messina court. Cretella – grown in Napoli youth team – has been part of the Biancoscudati squad since 2022.
After Liguori’s conviction in the first instance, Padova issued a note declaring that “the company will not express any type of evaluation regarding the matter until justice has expressed itself with a final sentence at the last level of judgement”. A statement that ended up at the center of numerous criticismsincluding those of the mayor Sergio Giordanionce the club’s sporting director, who underlined that he “was on the side of women.”
