French archers Baptiste Addis, Thomas Chirault and Jean-Charles Valladont won a silver medal in team archery after their defeat (5-1) against South Korea in the final, Monday July 29. This is the first medal for French men’s team archery at the Olympic Games since this discipline appeared on the program in its current form in 1972, and the fourth medal in the history of archery. French at the Olympics since that date.

They once hoped for Olympic gold, after sharing the points in the first set, but ultimately bowed out by losing the next two sets. Pushed to their limits by the 8th in the world supported by the public, the South Koreans were forced to produce scores close to perfection on the Esplanade des Invalides (57, 59 and 59 out of 60 possible points) to win a sixth title in seven editions of the Olympic Games since 2000.

Before that, the Blues had nevertheless achieved an exemplary performance with a quarter-final victory (6-2) against the Italians once the machine was underway, and a fiery semi-final. In a breathtaking duel against Turkey and decided by the closest arrow in the tie-break (5-4), the Tricolores secured a win.

This historic silver medal brings smiles back to the French archers after the disillusionment of the women’s team event concluded with an elimination in the round of 16 against the Netherlands. Enough to launch the individual events which begin with the 32nd and 16th finals on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
