Should judo be better done barefoot or with socks? (barefoot, tradition, sport)

Dear readers,

I ask this question primarily to the experienced judoka out there. As you know, judo is no walk in the park. It can also be dangerous and injuries may be unavoidable. But is that really the case?
That’s what my question is about. What tips, recommendations or opinions do you have about how to prevent injuries as best as possible in judo or how to behave accordingly when practicing this sport so that an injury does not occur at all?

To give my question some context, I would like to share a personal anegdote here. At that time I started judo when I was around 16 years old. I suffered a broken bone in a randori and during sparring. Which was very tragic. It made me feel like this sport wasn’t for me. At the same time, I knew of judoka my age who hadn’t broken anything yet. Maybe I was just being stupid?
I still enjoyed this sport, despite breaking a bone.

Today I plan to try judo again, but I also plan to spend some time practicing my throwing techniques with a sand doll and strengthening my overall physical strength even more.

Finally, I would like to emphasize again that I am aware that judo is not a safe sport. Nevertheless, I hope that experienced judoka would like to share one or two tips or their experiences with me.

With full respect and kind regards, Moe.
