The 2024 NFL MVP race is exciting. The top candidates are Jackson, Mahomes, Daniels, Stroud and Allen. Quarterbacks dominate, rookies surprise.

The 2024 NFL season is six weeks old and the race for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title is slowly taking shape. To determine the leading candidates ahead of Week 7, we interviewed 15 experts. Our panel, consisting of Mike Tannenbaum, Matt Miller, Jordan Reid, Lindsey Thiry, Seth Walder, Dan Graziano, Field Yates, Jeremy Fowler, Matt Bowen, Jason Reid, Dan Orlovsky, Ben Solak, Kalyn Kahler, Aaron Schatz and me, has created a list of the top MVP candidates. This list forms the basis for our consensus top 5 candidates.

The top five MVP contenders

As usual, quarterbacks dominate the list, but the candidates are getting younger and younger, which creates additional excitement. Can a rookie win the award for the first time in over six decades? Will last season’s winner defend their title? And whose stocks rise or fall a third of the season?

Lamar Jackson: A strong start

Lamar Jackson wasted no time in emphasizing his ambitions for a third MVP title. After an 0-2 start for the Ravens, he has rattled off four wins in a row and is impressive with a completion rate of 70.3%. In the last two games against the Bengals and Commanders, he totaled 766 yards passing and running.

Patrick Mahomes: The irreplaceable playmaker

2024 Statistiken: 1.235 Passing Yards, 6 TDs, 6 INTs, 57,8 QBR (83 Rushing Yards)

Mahomes shows that he is still a legitimate MVP candidate despite hitting career lows in touchdown passes and QBR. He has led the Chiefs to a 5-0 start despite the team struggling with injuries. His ability to carry the team is undeniable.

Jayden Daniels: Der Rookie-Sensation

Daniels is turning heads in Washington, leading the NFL with a 75.3% completion rate. His aggressive play and the Commanders’ lead in the NFC East make him a serious candidate.

CJ Stroud: The rising star

2024 Statistiken: 1.577 Passing Yards, 10 TDs, 4 INTs, 66,3 QBR (75 Rushing Yards)

Stroud has established himself as a leader for the Texans, leading the team to a 5-1 start. His improved completion rates and the prospect of 28 touchdown passes underline his development.

Josh Allen: On the way to being at his best

2024 Statistiken: 1.160 Passing Yards, 10 TDs, 0 INT, 79,3 QBR (178 Rushing Yards, 3 TDs)

Allen is having an impressive performance this season with the highest QBR of his career. Despite changes to the Bills’ roster, he remains a central factor in the team’s success.

Who narrowly missed out?

Sam Darnold, Derrick Henry and Brock Purdy are also in discussion, while Jordan Love and Justin Herbert still have chances to prove themselves in the coming weeks. The MVP debate remains exciting, and it will be interesting to see how the candidates develop as the season progresses.
