On Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October 600 athletes from all over Italy will arrive in Taranto for the Under 15 class judo section of the Italian Trophy. This is a very important event for the City, which boasts an award-winning female referee and two-time Olympic referee. We are talking about Roberta Chyurlia who, after the magnificent experience in Paris, for which she was awarded by Mayor Melucci as a sporting excellence of our territory, will be present at the competition to be held at the Palamazzola starting from 9.00 am.
The competition will see the prestigious participation of Antonio Ernesto, IJF Protocol Manager for years, (International Judo Federation) with 3 Olympics already behind him (RIO, TOKYO, PARIS) and many others in his future, who has accepted the candidacy to the FIJLKAM Federal Council – JUDO SECTOR. Antonio Ernesto will make his immense international experience gained in the International Judo Federation (IJF) available to the Italian Federation. It will be the first time that a person from Puglia will be able to aspire to such a prestigious position at a national level.
Ernesto, who contributed to the perfect success of the judo competition at the Paris Olympics, is an international level Judoka from Puglia who first joined the team of the Carabinieri sports center in Rome and then, once his competitive activity was over, he started service of JUDO, undertaking a managerial career at an international level thanks also to the trust that the international federation has placed in him and becoming a source of pride for our Nation.
Ernesto has clear ideas about the future of Judo. “Today’s reality – he states – cannot ignore international relations and interactions with other nations, always respecting the cultures, religions and social characteristics of each of them. My goal is to be a link between the national reality and the broader international reality, opening up new perspectives for the Federation and all its members”.
Its path will follow the footsteps traced by the international federation, and will be concentrated on the implementation of projects already tested abroad, devising others suited to the characteristics of our territory.
In Taranto Antonio Ernesto will meet Roberta Chyurlia; the two of our fellow countrymen grew up together in Puglia and now represent Italy in the world.
Roberta Chyurlia is the first female referee for the Italian federation at the Olympics, awarded 4 times as the best female referee in Europe (no one so far has achieved this record at European level), the only female world referee in Italy, responsible for training national referee class, part of the Top level project of the European federation, 5 Senior World Championships and dozens of Grand Prix and Grand Slam behind us (from 2017 to today).
The Apulian regional committee, led by Maestro Nicola Rinaldi, will be proud to welcome these excellences and pay them due honours.
