Football: here is the new golden nickel-plated brass trophy to celebrate the winner of Ligue 1

Will Marquinhos, the captain of PSG, have the privilege of lifting the new trophy celebrating the Champion of France next May? Or will it rather be the captain of AS Monaco, OM or another Ligue 1 team? This Thursday at the headquarters of the Professional Football League (LFP), this new trophy was unveiled, which therefore succeeds Hexogoal. He measures 54 cm and weighs 13 kilos. This golden nickel-plated brass cup resembles that of the NBA champion.

Four pillars in the shape of the number 1 support a completely smooth round ball, all on a base where the names of the former winners of the French Championship appear since its creation during the 1932-1933 season. This new trophy is the work of Mathias Kiss, associated with Maison Christofle. “It’s a dream come true. I wanted a trophy that symbolized victory,” insists the designer.

“We are quite proud. A trophy is something major, it embodies a discipline, a competition and a brand, says Vincent Labrune, president of the LFP. It is both a sporting object coveted by a player but also a brand attribute that makes you dream. We want to move with the League from an institutional brand to an emotional brand. »

This new trophy, however, does not have a name. Or at least not yet. “I am not in favor of it,” says Vincent Labrune. It is a reflection that we must have but I am not convinced that we should name it. »

The previous trophy, which had existed since 2006-2007, was lifted for the last time last May by PSG players. On the historical side, “the Hexagoal” will have finally been won by Olympique Lyonnais 52007, 2008), the Girondins de Bordeaux (2009), Marseille (2010), Lille (2011 and 2021), Montpellier Hérault (2012), Monaco ( 2017) and PSG record holder of the trophy, with 10 “Hexagoal” (2013 to 2016, 2018 to 2020 and since 2022).
