Ekmark’s Key Takeaways from HIF-Rosengård 0-4: Insights and Analysis

FC Rosengård defeated HIF 4-0 at Olympia in the third round of the Swedish Cup.
Christoffer Ekmark summarizes the match in ten points.

1. We come to the match itself.
The strongest memory I will, unfortunately, carry with me is injured Julia Welin.
In the middle of the first half, she twisted her knee in a (not bad at all) melee and was laid up in severe pain.
The knee was bandaged and Welin, a civilian nurse with plenty of experience with injuries, pounded her fist on the ground in frustration with tears in her eyes.
I expect that it was a more serious injury, but also that Julia Welin will come back once more. She has left a strong mark on Scanian football in LB07, Borgeby, Södra Sandby, Malmö FF and HIF and is not done with her deed yet.

2. The result
0-4 meant that FC Rosengård is ready for group play in the cup.
HIF’s goal was to reach the third round, and after victories against Eskilsminne and Lilla Torg, it can be considered that HIF’s newcomer season in division one is fully approved.

3. The nightmare start
It had only been two minutes before Mai Kadowaki, after carelessness in the home defense, scored 0-1. The little nerve that was desired thus disappeared quite quickly.

4. Rosengård’s total dominance
HIF got three or four half-decent conversion opportunities over 90 minutes. Otherwise, it was all about defending oneself. And you can’t get a better workout. Although Rosengård rotated a lot, the home team made it as tight as possible centrally.
Two of the goals came from corners, one of which of course was headed in by the German Rebecka Knaak – the left-back has eleven goals in the league…

5. The audience figure
The October frost comes at night and there was men’s handball in the arena next door, with that still 958 people came to Olympia. Also, a heel with 20-25 HIF supporters which made the experience much livelier than it could have been.

6. Hanna Tegestål
The HIF goalkeeper could not do much for the goals, but had the chance to shine on several occasions and will be able to tell her grandchildren one day that she played against the world star Momoko Tanikawa (came on in the second half) and played 0-0 against her.

7. Bea Sprung
Only six games from the start in Rosengård this season.
But would have been the hub of any other Swedish women’s team.

8. HIF’s back line
A kind of 6-3-1:
Izabelle Wahlstedt, Johanna Andersson, Maja Nilsson on Emma Sternberg grew into the match the older it got and pushed the rest of the team to position themselves correctly under pressure. Of all the players on the court, I think that quartet benefited the most from this fight.
In front of the back line, the “sixes” Rebecka Holm and Cornelia Rahmberg toiled hard and they also started to win close matches in the second half.

9. Evelina Bertilsson
Combines life with playing soccer and being a fire engineer.
But she probably had a pretty rotten sewing consultant in the program. Humans are made to be expert commentators on TV. A cliff in the TV broadcast. Stone-cool, confident and analytical with just the right amount of pedagogical flair.
The match with Evelina’s wise words (and my general drivel) can be found here.

10. The sequel
HIF have Ljungskile at home in the series on Saturday. FC Rosengård has three (difficult) challenges left to achieve the perfect season. 23 wins in 23 games in the series this season (and 90-6 in goal difference), but Hammarby away is currently the hardest possible opposition. Then Linköping is also waiting on the road and Djurgården at home before the Swedish champions can check out.
