At 13, Mavrik Morin is a baseball player for the Royal Pee-Wee “AA” of SaguenayLac-Saint-Jean and he can play three positions, namely left-handed pitcher, 1st base and outfielder.

A fan of this sport since he was 4 years old, Mavrik was invited to the Canadian Championship in Woodstock, Ontario and won a bronze medal where he stood out on defense, even though he had been called upon as a backup along with two other players from Laval.

Fast and focused, he follows the advice of his coach, Patrice Bergeron, and watches out of the corner of his eye the prowess of his favorite player, Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees.

Before the Canadian championship, Mavrik participated in the Provincial Championship in Trois-Rivières, also with the Royals.

Last July, he had the chance to participate in the Bob Bissonnette 13U Baseball Classic home run contest at Stade Canac in Quebec, where he hit two cannon hits, on the other side of a fence located at 240 ft from home plate.

The Cégep de Chicoutimi women’s basketball team, led by Jean-Michel Bergeron, had an interesting and productive month of September by winning a tournament in Boston in the United States. A week later, this same team, which fielded 4 girls over 6 feet tall, won the final of a college tournament in Gatineau. This team is made up of 14 players from France, Gatineau and, of course, largely from the districts of Chicoutimi and Arvida.

On the other hand, the Séminaire de Chicoutimi men’s basketball team is expecting an important season, as the players led by Warren Laroche aspire to qualify for Division 1 at the college level.

Recently, in one of my columns in Le Réveil, I reported on the successes of Sophie Bergeron, daughter of Sylvain, who is now lining up for the prestigious Simon Fraser University in Vancouver and, funny coincidence, is directed by a native daughter from Arvida, Marie-Line Petit, sister of Félix, ex-player of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens.

“In sport, success is the sum of small efforts repeated day after day! »
