Women’s Champions League: Lyon wins at Wolfsburg (2-0) and already takes an option for the quarter-finals

The series continues for Lyon. The French champion won on the field of the German club Wolfsburg (2-0) on Thursday in a match on the second day of the Women’s Champions League. This result already gives the Lyonnaises a good qualification option for the quarter-finals of the event.

Winner of the Stambouliotes (3-0), on October 8 at Groupama Stadium while AS Rome beat Wolfsburg (1-0), Olympique Lyonnais, undefeated leader in the French Championship, therefore achieves a second victory in a row in C1 and also remains on four successes in D 1.

Faced with a not too fierce opponent, double winner of the event (2013, 2014), four times finalist, and already in danger of qualifying, Wendie Renard quickly gave her team the advantage by victoriously heading back a center delivered by Melchie Dumornay (8). This is Renard’s 33rd goal in the Champions League.

In the second half, American international Lindsey Horan brought the score to 2-0 by converting a penalty awarded for a foul on Dumornay committed by Janina Minge (53).

Apart from these two goals, OL, who controlled the match especially in the first half, did not create many chances, any more than Wolfsburg. The Germans, however, missed the opportunity to get back into the game after half-time during which they were more dynamic. They were unable to convert a few situations in which the Lyon defense was hesitant.

In the other match, AS Roma easily beat the Turkish team Galatasaray in Istanbul (6-1). Roma, leader on goal difference (+6 against +5) and OL will face each other on November 13 in Rome with the challenge of first place in Group A. The two teams have a lead of six points over Wolfsburg ( 3rd) and Galatasaray (4th).
