The Cavaliers fire Zhaire Smith

Zhaire Smith will finally not be on the Cleveland Cavaliers roster. The Ohio franchise confirmed this by announcing the dismissal of the guard, who had signed a non-guaranteed contract in the hope of being one of the selected but who will ultimately have to continue looking for a team.

After the waiver, Cleveland still has several players on non-guaranteed contracts, fighting for the 15th spot on the roster. Unless there are surprises, this gap will be filled by Pete Nance, Jules Bernard or Darius Brown II, who are doing the preseason on Exhibit 10 contracts, although some teams prefer to start the season with an empty space on the roster to make additions throughout the year.

Smith, picked 16th in the 2018 draft, had been out of the league since 2020 until the Cavs signed him to a 10-day contract in February, which did not allow him to play a game again. Yes, he succeeded during the preseason, even if for a short time, given that in the friendly match against Indiana he had just over 3 minutes available. In them he managed to score 5 points and steal a ball, but it seems that this will be all he will be able to contribute for now.
