The team to which Muniain has recommended the signing of Guti as coach

Despite being a newcomer, Iker Muniain has landed with stripes in San Lorenzo de Almagro. This is why the former Athletic player did not hesitate to recommend to the Argentine club the signing of Guti as the new coach after the departure of Leandro Romagnoli.

It has mattered little to Iker Muniain that Guti has not trained since he was fired by Almería in 2020. However, it has mattered to San Lorenzo de Almagro, which has finally entrusted its bench to Miguel Ángel Russo.

Russo, not Guti, will be Muniain’s new coach in San Lorenzo

Miguel Ángel Russo was announced this Thursday as the new coach of San Lorenzo de Almagro, as reported by the Argentine institution through its social networks. “Welcome, Miguel! Miguel Ángel Russo signed, together with president Marcelo Moretti, his contract until December 2025 and is the new coach of San Lorenzo. Let’s go!“, wrote the club through its profile on the social network X, accompanied by an image of the coach next to the president and a Barça shirt.

The announcement comes shortly after Leandro Romagnoli resigned as coach of the ‘Ciclón’ after Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Godoy Cruz. The coach of 68 years arrives after a recent passage through Rosario Centrala club with which he was crowned champion of the League Cup in 2023.

Miguel Ángel Russo thus begins his second stage on the San Lorenzo de Almagro bench, after a short stint in the 2008-2009 season, in which he recorded 17 wins, five draws and 14 losses, in a total of 36 games.

The ‘Ciclón’, which incorporated the Spaniard Iker Muniain this season, is in twenty-fourth position in the Argentine Professional League tournament, with just 18 points in 17 games and with half the points of the leader, Velez Sarsfield.
