FLAG FOOTBALL. SM Soldiers debuts for the men’s Gauchão on Saturday, in Tapejara, northeast of RS

This Saturday (19), the <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/05/carlos-barbosa-ximangos-is-the-gaucho-champion-of-flag-football-in-the-female-flag-modality-leouve-portal/" title="Carlos Barbosa Ximangos is the Gaucho Champion of Flag Football in the Female Flag modality | Leouve Portal”>Santa Maria Soldiers men’s flag football team debuts in the Campeonato Gaúcho of the sport in Tapejara, Northeast Region of Rio Grande do Sul. This will be the team’s first competition, which was implemented this season by the traditional club of sports of the oval ball of the Heart of Rio Grande. The matches must be broadcast on the Tapejara Dragons channel, which hosts the event, on YouTube.

In addition to the Soldiers and the home squad, Carlos Barbosa Ximangos, from Carlos Barbosa, and the Sananduva Lizards, from Sananduva, are also part of the dispute in the Santa Maria group. In the other group: Lions, from Porto Alegre; Matilha dos Vales, from Santa Cruz do Sul; Vila Lângaro Renegados, from Vila Lângaro; and Montenegro Stone Giants, from Montenegro. If Soldiers manages to finish in at least 2nd place in the group, the team will guarantee qualification to the semi-finals, which will take place on Sunday (20) at 8:45 am. In the first phase of the knockout stage, the vice-leader of one group faces the leader of the other. In any case, the teams that finish at the bottom of the table will also face each other, on the same day, to decide the 5th and 7th places.

The Soldiers arrive this weekend to make the club’s first appearance in the sport, which is derived from American football, in the men’s format. For women, the scenario is different: the “Soldadas” are the biggest state champions, having already won three editions of the Copa RS and two of the Campeonato Gaúcho. They will compete in the State Championship on the 26th, in Cachoeirinha, at the Cruzeiro stadium.
