Through the granting of his patronage, the Municipality of Monfalcone supported the self-defense project aimed at healthcare and emergency workers, which took shape through the holding of a training course which took place on 9 and 11 October at theAuditorium of the San Polo Hospital in Monfalcone. The training event, organized byOrder of Nursing Professions of Gorizia in collaboration with theJudo association Isao Okano of Monfalconeinvolved nurses and healthcare workers with the aim of providing practical tools to deal with difficult situations of aggression in the workplace. The course not only offered demonstrations of self-defense techniques, but also explored the psychological and legal aspects linked to attacks by patients or their families of which healthcare workers have often been victims.

Always attentive to the well-being and safety of the socio-health personnel working in the area, as underlined by president of OPI Gorizia, Gloria Giuricinthe Municipality of Monfalcone supported the initiative with great sensitivity. The Sports Councilor, Fabio Banello, expressed his appreciation for the organization of the event by declaring: «I thank Annalisa Colautti of the Judo association Isao Okano and Gloria Giuricin of the Opi for having created a concrete and useful course for operators. An initiative organized at a time when unfortunately attacks on healthcare personnel are on the increase, making adequate training essential for those who work in difficult contexts such as emergency rooms, departments and clinics.”
Banello also highlighted the importance of the recent Legislative Decree approved on 2 October by the Council of Ministers, which provides for a tightening of penalties for those who attack healthcare personnel or damage the property of healthcare facilitieswith measures such as compulsory arrest in flagrante delicto or deferred flagrante delicto, with video or photographic documentation, also underlining the possibility of making the event periodic. «The positive feedback from the participants demonstrates the interest in training activities that not only provide practical skills but create awareness of the rights and protections of healthcare personnel» said the councilor in closing. The event was also possible thanks to the support of the Health Management of the Monfalcone Hospital which made the venue available and the experts who contributed to the success of the course, including the sports psychologist Nicoletta Lucatello el’lawyer Tiziana Zuppi.
