The versatile rider, winner of a stage of the 2017 Tour de France, decided to end his professional career at the age of 31.
Lilian Calmejane, winner of a stage of the Tour de France in 2017, ends her professional career at 31, saying she “cramped and less fulfilled” in cycling for several years.
“After a decade in the pros, it is time, for the competitor at heart that I am, to turn to new sporting challenges which I will discuss later”writes the Frenchman on his social networks.
“I no longer find my place in the World Tour peloton. Certainly, cycling has changed radically in a few years but I want to say that it is my vision of high-level cycling that has changed. For several years, I have felt cramped and less fulfilled. My results or rather my performances no longer satisfy me”adds the Intermarché rider who has twelve professional successes to his list, including a stage on the Vuelta in 2016 and one on the Tour de France the following year.
“My dreams were achieved very early in my career and that certainly served me in terms of motivation to have a greater track record”estimated the Albigensian who will be 32 years old in December.
