Apple TV+ announces a new documentary on Major League Baseball

Today Apple TV+ announced the first docuseries dedicated to the world of the Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series and the heated fight between the teams to win the most famous trophy in American sport, the World Series championship. The new three-part documentary offers an unprecedented vision, highlighting all the highlights of the 2024 World Series. With exclusive behind-the-scenes access, with interviews with players and their families, coaches, fans and journalists, the series takes the audience through the most unforgettable stages of each team’s journey.

The project is produced in collaboration with MLB and Imagine Documentaries (“The Dynasty: New England Patriots” and “The Super Models”), RJ Cutler’s This Machine, part of Sony Pictures Television (“Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry ”, “Dear…”, “Martha”, “Elton John: Never Too Late”) and with five-time World Series champion, executive producer Derek Jeter, along with his production company Cap 2 Productions. The series, directed by RJ Cutler himself, is currently in production. Executive producers are Derek Jeter, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, RJ Cutler, Nick Trotta, Justin Wilkes, Sara Bernstein, Marc Gilbar, Mark Blatty, Trevor Smith and Justin Yungfleisch.

Apple TV+ just completed its third season as the exclusive home of “Friday Night Baseball,” a weekly doubleheader available to stream only to Apple TV+ subscribers every Friday night during the MLB Regular Season.

The new, as-yet-untitled Major League Baseball docuseries joins Apple’s expanding offering of non-fiction programs that tell great sports stories, including “The Dynasty: New England Patriots,” the docuseries about the New England Patriots. England Patriots, created by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Documentaries; “Messi’s World Cup: the pinnacle of a legend”, the four-part docuseries that offers an unprecedented and exclusive look behind the scenes of Messi’s five participations in the FIFA World Cup and his triumphant victory in 2022 with the national team Argentina; ”Stephen Curry: Underrated”, the extraordinary story of one of the most influential players in basketball history, Stephen Curry; the as-yet-untitled film about the life and groundbreaking career of seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton.

MLB has long chronicled World Series championships through official World Series films, dating back to 1943, when the U.S. State Department commissioned Major League Baseball to produce a recap of the World Series for overseas troops . MLB’s multiplatform media and licensing projects, produced under the League’s MLB Studios brand, span film, television and digital distribution, including diverse and pioneering programming that draws on a vast media archive to cover historical and cultural topics.
