The decision of theInternational Tennis Integrity Agency (Itia) to exonerate Jannik Sinner from the accusation of doping following the positive test for Clostebol, she complied with the rules defined “by the World Anti-Doping Code“in turn “established by the World Anti-Doping Agency“, i.e. Wada which has now appealed to the CAS against that decision. Thus the CEO of tennis anti-doping, Karen Moorhousedefends ITIA’s decision born from the evaluation of “circumstances, facts and scientific data“, regardless of the “profile of the player involved”. CEO Moorhouse’s intervention is contained in a report on Itia’s activity in the third quarter of 2024.
“All cases handled according to the same criteria”
Aware “that it may be difficult to understand the differences in outcome or inconsistencies perceived in the trial”, Itia wanted to clarify its position, after Wada itself appealed to the CAS against the decision to declare Sinner “not guilty and not negligent”. “The criteria by which we handle cases do not change, regardless of the profile of the player involved – underlines Moorhouse – We understand that the case involving Sinner has been at the center of attention and has provoked many comments and speculation, following our decision not to attribute any blame or negligence to the player”. Ending up moving “the focus of the appeal on the independent tribunal’s interpretation and application of the rules to determine the player’s level of culpability, rather than on ITIA’s investigation of the facts and science.”
