The elections for the presidency of the Spanish Football Federation (FEF) will be held on December 16. Three weeks before, on November 25, elections will be held for the general assembly of the federative body. On October 2, FIFA and UEFA gave an ultimatum to the Government to offer guarantees with the aim that the FEF would have a new president before the end of the year and the institution that Luis Rubiales had to leave agreed this Friday to finally start the process for the election of the assembly, delegate commission and top leader for the period 2024-2028.

The day before, the Higher Sports Council (CSD) approved a regulatory change to unblock the power vacuum in the FEF in order for elections to be held imminently and the federative body finally gave way this Friday to a process that must culminate in the election of a replacement for Pedro Rocha, disqualified by the Sports Administrative Court (TAD).

“The Spanish Football Federation thus begins the electoral process that it hopes to complete before the end of 2024,” the FEF announced through a brief statement in which it officially called the elections. The FEF managing committee will be chaired by the deputy vice president, María Ángeles García Chaves, Yaye. The manager will be made up of members designated by the board of directors and the delegate commission, as provided for in the ministerial order that regulates electoral processes in sports federations.

Two weeks after FIFA threatened Spain with withdrawing from organizing the 2030 World Cup if it did not immediately begin the FEF electoral process, the board of directors of this organization met this Friday and finally gave the green light to a process that must be completed. with a new top leader for the next four years. The candidates are still unknown, after Pedro Rocha, Carlos Herrera and Eva Parera opted for the last elections, although only the Extremaduran leader obtained the necessary endorsements and was proclaimed the sole candidate. Rocha is still waiting for a precautionary measure to have the possibility of running again if he decides to enter the electoral race.

Meanwhile, the president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, publicly opted on Thursday for a profile like that of Vicente del Bosque to preside over the FEF. The former Spanish coach currently chairs the supervision and normalization commission of the FEF, after being appointed to oversee the institution at a time of full institutional crisis since Rubiales was forced to resign for his non-consensual kiss with Jenni Hermoso after the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
