With his header to make it 1-0, Ramy Bensebaini paved the way to a home win against <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/01/bvb-clearly-wins-against-sc-freiburg/" title="BVB clearly wins against SC Freiburg”>FC St. Pauli on Friday evening. For the 29-year-old, who was previously considered a goal threat at Mönchengladbach, it was the first goal in the black and yellow jersey.
However, BVB coach Nuri Şahin has no problem with the Algerian going so long without scoring. He doesn’t define left-backs by goals. “I find the player very exciting,” explained the coach at the press conference after the game, “he is a sensible boy who really wants to.”
Step in the right direction
Bensebaini has been under contract in Dortmund since last summer. He was used in every game this season, but he only started on the pitch against St. Pauli and Heidenheim. “He already played a really good game against Heidenheim,” praised Şahin, who hopes that these two games mean a “step in the right direction” for him.
Since summer newcomer Yan Couto will also be missing from the next tasks, Bensebaini will continue to get chances to prove himself. “Now it’s about getting him on track and getting consistency in his game,” says Şahin, “We don’t need to talk about Ramy’s qualities.”
