RFA 18 Results: Gábor Boráros Falls Short Against Adam Jakubík – What This Means for His Future

Slovak MMA fighter Gábor Boráros lost to Czech Adam Jakubík in 128 seconds at the RFA 18 tournament in Žilina after a technical knockout. Will he end his career after another fiasco?

Žilina whistled at Boráros

After a bad period in and out of the cage, Boráros should have returned to a winning streak. Already a 32-year-old veteran of the scene with 33 professional fights (20-12-1 record), he faced a seven-year-younger rookie with a score of 3-1.

The Slovak fighter returned to his former starting line-up as if he wanted to remember the star times when he had famous mentors Ilja Škondrič and Attila Végh in his corner. Neither accompanied him this time.

The starting track remained the only memory of the once talented fighter. While in the past he was greeted by cheering crowds in the arena, this time there were boos. The Žilina audience cheered for Jakubík in the Czech-Slovak confrontation.

Boráros started frantically. He followed up the jump kick with a direct shot and got Jakubík under him. He landed a few punches, but also cashed in. Cech quickly got up and in return he easily delivered a takedown. After 50 seconds, it was already a one goal move.

Jakubík hit from the top position, it was a whirlwind. Boráros was passive, he wrapped himself up. He then offered his back to the opponent and the referee ended the match after another volley of blows.

Ukončí wine career?

“Initially, Gábor’s great start, and after 30 seconds the fire went out,” co-commentator and former wrestler Tomáš Kvapil said. “The Doors have a song called This is the end,” was followed up characteristically by commentator Stanislav Benčat.

Before the match, there were rumors that a possible loss could definitively bury Boráros’ career. “I will fight for a very long time, at least 5-6 years. It’s my life, I feel best in the cage,” he responded. After his next performance, it is questionable in which organization and at what level he will still get a chance.

“I’m surprised that he wants to go to those games, because I don’t see the slightest desire to win.” Kvapil added.

Boráros didn’t even meet the weight limit

Boraros fought in the RFA for the second time. In the premiere, he lost to another inexperienced Czech, Frederic Komuenh (started with a 4-2 record). He admitted that he did not train for the match, but this time he allegedly approached the preparation differently.

Has the former great talent of Slovak MMA Gábor Boráros hit rock bottom from which he will bounce back? Or will the steep decline of his once stellar career continue? That is one of the main questions before Saturday’s RFA 18 tournament in Žilina (from 19.00, broadcast by Voyo).

However, already during Friday’s official weighing, he exceeded the set weight limit by 0.9 kilograms. The night before, he posted a video on the social network of how he was having a good time instead of doing weights.

By not meeting the limit, he annoyed Jakubík, who refused to shake his hand during the public weigh-in. Boraros responded that he would knock his teeth out for it. “What about Dr. Boráros’ office? After all, I have all my teeth,” Jakubík enjoyed it after the victory.

The fall of Gábor Boráros

At the age of 32, Boráros is only a shadow of the fighter who enjoyed immense popularity at his peak. “He was the first real and big star of the domestic scene, bigger than Karlos Vémola or anyone else in his time,” said Oktagon promoter Ondřej Novotný in the past.

“I became a Czech-Slovak MMA star in one night. I’m Gábor Boráros and I was the first,” he says in the documentary miniseries of the Oktagon MMA organization.

In 2016, Boráros won the first series of the Oktagon Challenge reality show. The pilot project of the now leading European organization introduced MMA to the wider masses in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Boraros was the central star.

He mixed Slovak with Hungarian, translated it into English expressions, but he was direct and funny. He won fans with his charisma, appearance, and sports performances. He was a talent, his trainer and Octagon Hall of Famer Ilja Škondrič saw his future in the UFC at the time.

Fame, discotheques and the environment spoiled him

In November 2018, he was 16-5-1 when he fought David Kozma for the Octagon’s welterweight title. He seriously injured his knee in the match and since then his career has been on the decline.

“Fame, discos and the environment spoiled him. Such people end up badly,” Škondrič told ŠPORT.sk. For a long time, he blamed his ward for a bad approach to training and a stubborn nature.

After suspicions of fraud, he went to Russia

Boraros said goodbye to Oktagon with three losses in a row. He left for the partner organization Fabriq. After the victory over the Israeli Kirill Medvedovsky, several bookmakers recorded an unusual volume of bets on the victory of Boráros exactly in the 2nd round. The case was dealt with by the police, the result of the investigation is still unknown.

The Oktagon and Fabriq organizations have suspended Boráros’ activities pending a full investigation of the case. He lost most of his income, he admitted financial problems. Under difficult circumstances, he went to fight in Russia.

The transfer of Slovak MMA fighter Gábor Boráros to the Russian organization ACA was a shock. Specifically, in his case, not so much moral as sports.

This time I also trained, I promised before the next fiasco

After a quick loss to former world champion Marat Gafurov, he was back on the domestic stage in the RFA organization. He should have returned to the winning streak against Komuen. However, he started unprepared, already in the middle of the 1st round he was gasping for breath. After the break, he barely got to his feet, the referee asked him if he wanted to continue the fight. In the 2nd round Komuenha beat him on the ground.

Slovak MMA fighter Gábor Boráros (20-12-1) returned to the domestic scene after a break of more than a year. At the joint tournament of the RFA and IAF organizations in Nové Zámky, he lost to Czech Frederic Komuenh (5-2).

At the press conference before Saturday’s match, Boraros was asked what he did differently this time in preparation. “I mainly trained, not like the last time. I won most of the matches in the 1st round and thought that would be enough.

I’m sorry, I didn’t plan such a premiere in RFA. I underestimated my opponent and that’s exactly how it looked. But that’s in the past, I won’t make such mistakes again. Now I’ve also been training for the match,” he promised.
