Thanks to a strong first half, HSV beat 1. FC Magdeburg and moved up to third place. In Fürth, Nuremberg won the Frankenderby, while KSC celebrated a late goal in Ulm. All highlights here in the video.
There was huge cheering in Hamburg when the final whistle sounded on Sunday afternoon. No wonder, because Hamburger SV won the top game in the 2nd Bundesliga. After the 3:1 (3:0) against the previously unbeaten 1. FC Magdeburg, HSV is in one of the top three places for the first time this season.
“I’m not the biggest party animal after victories,” said HSV coach Steffen Baumgart on Sky. But this success “was special for me in the way it was today.”
In front of 57,000 spectators, goals from Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer (5th minute), Noah Katterbach (42nd) and Davie Selke (45th + 1) ensured that Hamburg had a seemingly secure lead at the break. But despite HSV’s best half of the season, the game threatened to tip over again. Because HSV captain Sebastian Schonlau saw a red card for an emergency stop (57th). Shortly afterwards, Martijn Kaars brought Magdeburg back within reach with a penalty kick (63′).
But this season’s surprise team was too harmless that day to seriously endanger HSV again, even with superior numbers and constant pressure. The FCM only had a great chance to make it 2:3 (83′).
Greuther Fürth – 1. FC Nuremberg 0:4
In Fürth, 1. FC Nürnberg celebrated a memorable victory and gave coach Miroslav Klose a fantastic Frankenderby debut. The “Club” won 4-0 (3-0) against arch-rivals SpVgg Greuther Fürth and climbed into the top half of the table.
Mahir Emreli with his opening goal (13th minute) and striker colleague Stefanos Tzimas with a brace (18th/34th) made the preliminary decision before the break. Shortly before the end, Lukas Schmelzer scored the goal for the final score (88th) and FCN’s highest derby win in Bundesliga and second division history.
After the 273rd Frankenderby, Nuremberg can look up again in ninth place in the rankings – the promotion zone is only five points away. Fürth, on the other hand, has to cope with its fourth winless match in a row and is slipping further and further: Coach Alexander Zorniger’s “cloverleaf” team is only three points ahead of the relegation zone.
SSV Ulm – Karlsruher SC 0:1
With his first goal of the season, Marcel Franke gave Karlsruher SC a last-minute victory in the state derby against newly promoted SSV Ulm. In a game without highlights, the guests scored a lucky 1-0 (0-0) with their last action.
For the KSC, after three draws in a row with a total of nine goals conceded, it was another sense of achievement, which was rewarded with the jump to second place behind leaders Fortuna Düsseldorf. Ulm, on the other hand, slipped to 15th place in the table.
