Barely re-elected and already offensive. The president of the French Rugby Federation (FFR) Florian Grill, reappointed to his post on Saturday, strongly opposed this Sunday, October 20, a possible return to the French team of fullback Melvyn Jaminet, suspended after racist remarks made during the tour in Argentina in July. “Frankly, from my point of view, it will be very complicated and if you ask me my opinion, for me it’s no”declared the boss of the federation at the microphone of RMC Sport.
“At some point people have to understand that when we wear the rooster, when we represent France, I’m sorry but there are things that we don’t have the right to do. Maybe it’s a double whammy… I’m not the only one to decide and so these are things that we will see with the strategic office (of the FFR) and also with Fabien (Galthié, the coach).”added Florian Grill.
For Oscar Jégou and Hugo Auradou, the FFR relies on justice
Jaminet (25 years old, 20 caps) was initially suspended for 34 weeks by the FFR disciplinary committee after the broadcast of a racist video on his social networks in July. The Toulon full-back, who returned to training with his club at the end of September, can benefit from an eight-week reduction in his suspension provided he completes community service. Regardless, we won’t see him on the field again before 2025.
“My daronne who asks me if I had a party (he blows). I swear, the first Arab I meet on the road I will hit him with his helmet.”declared the player in the video, visibly angry. It was posted after the Blues’ first test match in Mendoza, Argentina, against the Argentine Pumas. After the controversy, Jaminet apologized, saying “deeply sorry and ashamed to [s] I passwords». His lawyer had said the video was only to be sent to friends in a private chat group and that he made it after being held in prison.
Also questioned about a possible return to the French team of Oscar Jégou and Hugo Auradou, charged with rape in Argentina, Florian Grill recalled, still on RMC, that their international future would depend on the court’s decision: “For Jégou and Auradou, we have been very clear: they will not play again for the French team as long as there is no dismissal. And for them to play again in the French team, they will also have to have adequate sporting performances. The examination of the request for dismissal, in other words for abandonment of proceedings, against the two players, was adjourned to a next hearing scheduled for Friday, October 25.
