Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona stayed on course for success in La Liga before the cracking duel with Bayern Munich. Real Madrid also prevails.

The Catalans celebrated their ninth win in their tenth league game on Sunday evening (October 20, 2024) with a 5-1 (3-0) win against Sevilla FC and thus maintained their lead in the table. Robert Lewandowski was able to celebrate once again before meeting Munich again in the Champions League on Wednesday (9 p.m.).

The Pole put Barca in the lead with a penalty (24th) and increased it to 3-0 a little later (39th) – his eleven and twelve goals of the season. Pedri (28th) had previously extended the lead after a counterattack. In the final phase, Pablo Torre (82’/88′) followed up, Stanis Idumbo (87′) scored the guests’ goal.

Barca slowed down after the break and conserved their energy. In the 83rd minute, Flick brought on the recently injured top talent Gavi. The 20-year-old was back in the Spanish league leaders’ squad for the first time after the knee injury he suffered in November 2023. Due to the injury, Gavi also missed the European Championships in Germany, where Spain won the title.

Real jumps the away hurdle Vigo

Real Madrid remains on the heels of league leaders FC Barcelona. In Vigo, however, the team had to suffer before success was guaranteed. After uncomfortable days, Kylian Mbappe celebrated a sense of achievement with Real Madrid and laid the foundation for the “Royal” to win away at Celta Vigo in Spain’s La Liga.

Three days before the premier class duel with Borussia Dortmund, Real initially drew level on points with leaders FC Barcelona with a 2-1 (1-0) win in Galicia.
