Badminton: Narrow home win for the first team in the catch-up game

+++ Victory against BV Hungen in the district league +++

In an exciting duel against BV Hungen, TV 1843 Dillenburg secured a narrow 5:3 victory in the district league on Sunday (October 20, 2024). Despite the outnumbered guests, who only competed with one lady and were at a disadvantage from the start, there were still a few close games waiting for the TVD players before they were able to celebrate their second victory in a row.

TV 1843 Dillenburg 1 – BV Hungen 1 5:3

The first men’s doubles with Robin Dietrich and Bao Pham got off to a strong start and won 23:21 in the final round after three hard-fought sets. The 2nd men’s doubles, consisting of Paul Tetzner and Christian Becker, also won their game confidently in two sets. Since mixed doubles and women’s doubles were among the two games canceled by Hungen, for which Josefine Hof was nominated alongside Bao Pham and Kezia Suhr respectively, the games necessary for a draw had already been achieved.

The guests put their strength in this duel in the singles, where they started to catch up and first came close in the women’s singles, where Kezia Suhr lost. Since Christian Becker rarely found his game in the second men’s singles, the lead slowly melted away. While Paul Tetzner lost the first round in a long overtime in the third men’s singles, Robin Dietrich was on the winning track.

While clearly ahead in the first set, the second set was a close duel for every point and a constant back and forth. In the end, Dietrich prevailed just after extra time and took the celebrated winning point. This was all the more important because Paul Tetzner could no longer win his game, so that the opponents from the other end of the Wetzlar badminton district were able to shorten the score again.

In the end there was a narrow but deserved 5:3 home win. This means that after the second home win in a row, the TVD finds itself in the middle of the table with an away defeat, with a small cushion over the relegation zone. It continues on November 3rd with table neighbors SG BC Linden / BV Gießen Hoppers.
