Aryna Sabalenka Speaks Out on Iga Świątek’s Dethronement

Aryna Sabalenka has been almost unbeatable on the courts lately. Only Karolina Muchova can actually handle it. The Czech returned to the game after an injury and it was she who eliminated the Belarusian from the tournament in Beijing already at the quarterfinal stage. From Washington to Wuhan, Iga Świątek‘s greatest rival showed outstanding form.

Iga Świątek dethroned

It happened. After another 50 weeks at the top of the WTA ranking, Iga Świątek had to give way to the recently excellent Aryna Sabalenko. After the Olympic Games, the Pole clearly lost momentum in her game, and then she did not take part in any tournament for a long time and ended cooperation with her coach, Tomasz Wiktorowski.

The Pole will return to play only in Riyadh at the WTA Finals. There, she still has a chance to regain the leadership position before the end of the season. The change in regulations led to considerable confusion in the ranking, and although Świątek was supposed to lose her leading position only on October 28, it happened after the ranking was updated this week.

Aryna Sabalenka reacted to the dethronement of Iga Świątek

Aryna Sabalenka decided to comment on her ascent to the top on social media. The comment was short and, although blunt, also full of doubts. “Number 1… Let’s see how long this time.” – the Belarusian woman wrote on the X website. The comments congratulated her and said that this time she should take this place for a long time.

Iga Świątek explained some time ago that she is not that concerned about the WTA ranking. Above all, she simply wanted to be the best and be in good shape. It is possible that during the WTA Finals she will show who really rules in women’s tennis. All we have to do is wait for the tournament to start on November 2.
