Kenneth Perez and Kees Kwakman believe that <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/01/two-outgoing-transfers-at-ajax-tagliafico-cannot-leave/" title="'Two outgoing transfers at Ajax, Tagliafico cannot leave'”>Brian Brobbey still places too much emphasis on his physical strength in his playing, they say at This Was The Weekend op ESPN. The Ajax striker fights countless duels every match and is important for the team, but has not yet scored in the Eredivisie this season. Both analysts believe that Brobbey could add a little more variation to his game.

Brobbey received a yellow card in the first half when he expressed his frustration after not being awarded a free kick. “I understand that the referee sometimes says: ‘You do it yourself’,” says Kwakman. “I now thought that he deserved a free kick twice against Heracles Almelo.”

“I think he does the same thing a little too much,” Kwakman is then critical of Brobbey. “Of course he is very good at holding the ball and seeking contact, but I think he should break away from his opponent much more often. Then he can also be played differently.”

“He is now actually too much of a focal point. Wout Weghorst sometimes thinks it is good if the others ask for the ball, so that he can be in front of the goal himself. Perez responds to his colleague. “You can also be afraid that he (Brobbey, ed.) will become a ‘one trick pony’, that he can only do one thing,” he warns the Ajax striker.

“It is his specialty and that is good, but for a striker it must be accompanied by a certain goal-orientedness,” says Perez. “If he scores the goals, it’s a good combination. It’s a lot of hanging now, but he could also make a run sometime.”

“It is of course well-intentioned, because he wants to help the team as a point of contact,” Kwakman continues. “It is wonderful to play with a striker who always wants the ball, but he should perhaps think about himself a little more.”

Perez then shines a light on the first chance that Brobbey missed against Heracles on Sunday. The striker seemed to be able to direct a half-high cross into the empty goal, but saw his effort fly past the wrong side of the post. “That was so technically bad that it almost hurt to watch. He still has a long way to go in terms of finishing,” the Dane concludes.
