The dojo is named after a champion

In 2023 a solidarity dojo project was launched in Néron. The operation is part of the 1,000 dojos program launched by the French judo federation (FFJDA), with the aim of promoting sport in the village.

The solidarity dojo called Larbi Benboudaoud was inaugurated on Friday evening, in the presence of many elected officials and personalities, including the sponsor of the new equipment.

No expenditure for the municipality

Larbi Benboudaoud, World champion and Olympic vice-champion, was chosen for the moral values he carries.

Nicolas Dorkeld, the mayor of Néron, explains: “We chose to install this solidarity dojo in the multipurpose room located near the school and the leisure center, beforehand, we repainted the walls, some work in sanitary facilities, lighting. Setting up the dojo required the installation of protective foam plates on the walls, and tatami mats on the floor, everything can be dismantled.”

This equipment was financed 80% by the National Sports Agency and 20% by the FFJDA, and therefore cost nothing to the municipality which simply made the room available.

A new association was created in Néron, “sport, action, development”. Chaired by Krisztina Kovacs, it should enable the organization of sporting events and boost sport in Néron.

The first section will be the judo club which already brings together a dozen very motivated toddlers aged 4 to 10, with their teacher Sébastian Radovici. Classes take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 5:30 p.m.
