Moscow – Andrey Rublev has developed into one of the best tennis players in the world in recent years. Emergency surgery on tennis superstar: procedure prevented amputation

After his round of 16 exit at the US Open at the beginning of September, Rublev sensed that something was wrong. “I suddenly felt severe pain,” he explained at a press conference weeks later. This pain led him to the hospital, where doctors quickly recognized the urgency of the situation. “After the checks, I was classified as an emergency and immediately taken to the operating room,” reported Rublev. The diagnosis was serious: surgery was necessary to prevent testicular amputation.

Rublev further explained: “I was very lucky. Once the blood has stopped flowing, you only have five or six hours for the operation. After that, the only option is amputation.” The timely operation saved him from more serious consequences. “The last thing I did before the operation was sign the document agreeing to have my testicle amputated,” Rublev said. In the end, however, this drastic measure was not necessary.

Rublev has now fully recovered and can even smile about the dramatic situation. “I don’t know how to put it in a pretty, charming way,” he said with a smile. But the experience showed him how quickly life can change.

Rublev has long been back on the pitch. He recently played at the ATP 250 tournament in Stockholm. His final stop was there in the quarter-finals against the Swiss Stan Wawrinka. (mind)
