Archery, negative World Cup finals for the Italians Nespoli and Roner

The last event of the international outdoor archery season, the World Cup Finals. The winners of the top global circuit in the compound and Olympic arch divisions were proclaimed in Tlaxcala, after three regular season stages which had established the qualifiers for the Mexican Finals.

Two Italians had obtained passes for the prestigious end-of-season event, <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/01/archery-italys-squad-for-the-2022-indoor-european-championships-mauro-nespoli-is-back-there-is-also-lucilla-boari-oa-sport/" title="Archery, Italy's squad for the 2022 Indoor European Championships. Mauro Nespoli is back, there is also Lucilla Boari – OA Sport”>Elisa Roner in the women’s compound (thanks to the success of Antalya) e Mauro Nespoli in men’s recurve (via ranking). Unfortunately, both were unable to enter the race well, losing the first head-to-head and immediately exiting the scene without being able to at least compete for the podium.

Roner actually didn’t shoot badly, losing by just one point (146-145) to local favorite Andrea Becerra in a high-level match, while Nespoli paid dearly for a slow start (27 and 24 for his partials in the first two sets) leaving the field free for the Mexican host Matias Grande and further postponing the appointment with the much desired first triumph of his career in this event.

The multiple Olympic medalist and beacon of the Italian movement, who this year has reached his seventh participation in the World Cup Finals, boasts as his best results the second place in Moscow 2019 and the third place a year ago in Hermosillo. This was instead an absolute first for Roner, who continues his growth path also outdoors after two consecutive successes at the Indoor World Series Finals in Las Vegas.
