Even after the fourth matchday, BG Göttingen remains the only team in the Basketball Bundesliga without a win.

Ludwigsburg/Göttingen – In front of 3,748 spectators, the Violets lost disastrously to the MHP giants Ludwigsburg for the third time with 62:91 (33:49) and remain bottom of the table. For the Swabians, the minus point difference was even 29 points – in the first two games of the season it was minus 28 each against Frankfurt and in Rostock.

After the decent match against Munich and the good cup game against Würzburg, there was another nasty setback when Göttingen’s former coach John Patrick was slapped.

This is the feeling that the Violets are now going into their game-free weekend, as there are only 17 instead of 18 teams in the BBL this season. On top of that, the Göttingen team not only lost the points, but also Jarred Godfrey, who received a “flopping T” (technical foul due to an alleged “swallow”) after a three-pointer almost from the sideline and later an unsportsmanlike foul, which led to disqualification (like red in football).

Defense that was too soft, a halting offense and a lack of concentration and strength in the final phase – this is how the factors for failure can be briefly summarized. Weak hit rates (only 30 percent overall – two-pointers: 32%, three-pointers 26%) as well as a clearly lost rebound duel (36:48!) caused further serious statistical deficits.

In addition, there was the usual tough defense at Ludwigsburg, including giant coach son Jacob Patrick, who threw in three three-pointers – even when the BG was down to eight points at the end of the third quarter (58:50). In the third period, the Göttingen team acted a little better defensively, but that was just a drop in the bucket from Ludwigsburg.

While new signing Tra Holder (twelve points) was the second best scorer in Göttingen after Jimmy Boeheim (18 plus eight rebounds), Kostja Mushidi (only 2 out of 10) remained pale this time.

This was the opinion of Coach Foucart, who collapsed his team and angrily threw his tactics board onto the ground: “We were dominated for 40 minutes today – physically and mentally. That’s obviously disappointing after we played a very, very good game last week and the physicality was there. That wasn’t the case today against a team that we know is very, very physical and plays good basketball. We didn’t do a lot of things well in the transition (switching game, editor) and one-on-one.”

Giants coach Patrick: “It was a difficult atmosphere. We took a few elbows today, not intentionally, and returned the fight. It was a relatively close game in the third quarter. Then we continued to press, had steals and, above all, gave 22 assists.” (haz/gsd)
