Trey Murphy III and Pelicans agree to 112 million for four years

The New Orleans Pelicans have just agreed to renew the contract rookie of Trey Murphy III, who will earn $112 million in 4 years. The southern franchise thus ensures the long term of one of its most powerful young talents. The forward will begin to receive his new salary from 2024-25, starting at 25 million and ending in 2029 with an estimated 31 million.

At this time Murphy is recovering from the muscle problems that will keep him out for the start of the season. But, when healthy, he has become an essential piece in the Pelicans’ recent successes thanks to his size and versatility from the wing. This past year his averages have been 14.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists while playing more than half of the games as a substitute. Ideal for stretching the field, Murphy is one of the players with the highest shooting range in the league (39% on three-pointers during his career). A skill that combines his impressive vertical jump and finishing near the rim.

Next year it will be Herb Jones, chosen in last season’s best defensive quintet, who will be eligible for renewal. This is, presumably, the last extension the Pelicans sign in the offseason after failing to reach an agreement with Brandon Ingram.
