More than 90 judokas brought to life the 1st edition of the “<a href="https://www.archysport.com/2024/10/judo-will-have-the-1st-edition-of-the-windy-city-cup/" title="Judo will have the 1st edition of the Windy City Cup”>Ciudad del Viento Cup”, a competition that took place on the main court of the Municipal Gymnasium No. 1. The “Garniquitos” team, from the Marcos Garnica Dojo at the Municipal Nº1 headquarters, won the top trophy.
On Saturday, October 19, the 1st edition of the “Windly City Cup” of judo was held with great success. In which the schools of the Municipal Gymnasium Nº1, Municipal Gymnasium Nº3, Municipal Gymnasium Nº4 and Club Huergo attended. Judokas from Trelew, Puerto Madryn, Trevelin and Esquel also joined.
The initiative arose from the municipal leaders Aldana Smart (Gimnasio Municipal Nº1) and Florencia Fernández (Club Huergo), who organized the day with the support and collaboration of the Ente Comodoro Deportes.
They competed in the pre-promotional categories (5 years to 8 years), promotional, children’s A and B, cadets and veterans. In total 36 adults participated, from there 6 teams were formed and fought for the Cup, and 57 minors.
“Garniquitos”, from the Marcos Garnica Dojo of Municipal Nº1, added 27 points and won the 1st edition of the “Ciudad del Viento Cup”. The team was made up of Melani Morales, Priscila Elgueta, Doris Grant, Denis Campos, Luciano González, Alan Elgueta and Jeremy Acevedo.
For its part, in second place was the cast of “Los Samurai”, belonging to the Bushido Dojo of the Municipal Gymnasium No. 3, who earned 24 points. While, with 12 units, Los Ninja (Dojos Bushido/Heitzman del G. Municipal Nº3/Esquel) completed the podium.
About the tournament, Aldana Smart said that “with teacher Flor (Fernández) we thought of holding a massive event where all categories participate, with the incentive for adults of a cup.”
“The boys wanted to compete and we also wanted to see more competition so that some would arrive more prepared for the Evita or Araucanía Games. And it also served for the veterans who qualified for the South American or the World Cup,” he stated.4

4th) The Warriors of Jigoro Kano (Dojos Huergo/Heitzman – Huergo/Heitzman): 9 points.
5th) Yellow Power (Dojos Bushido/Marcos Garnica – G. Municipal No. 1/No. 3): 7 points.
6th) The Super Team (Dojos Huergo/Marcos Garnica – G. Municipal Nº1/Huergo): 6 points.
