NFL: Chris Godwin and Mike Evans injured in Buccaneers defeat

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ 41-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night could have serious repercussions on the rest of the Florida team’s season as the team’s two best receivers, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, were injured during the match.

First of all, Mike Evans’ evening got off to an ideal start, as he caught a 25-yard pass for his 100th career touchdown, in the 5th minute of play.

Except midway through the second quarter, Evans appeared to re-aggravate a hamstring injury he was already carrying while stretching to catch a ball in the end zone.

Evans remained on the field for several seconds, as coaches and teammates gathered around him. He was able to leave the field with Bobby Slater, the Bucs’ vice president of sports medicine and performance, but he was limping significantly when he entered the tunnel to applause.

Then, with 1:04 left, Godwin was seriously injured on a 21-yard play with the Bucs trailing by 10 points. He was evacuated on a cart with a compression bag around his left leg.

Godwin had seven catches for 65 yards in the game.

Head coach Todd Bowles will face criticism for keeping his star receiver in the game with a slim chance of coming back to win the game.

This season, Evans and Godwin have combined for 76 receptions and 911 yards this season. Every other Bucs receiver has 20 receptions for 267 yards this season.
