Jean-Louis Gasset, former OM coach, will indeed come out of retirement to take charge of Montpellier, his favorite club, Provence confirms. At 70, Gasset had planned to devote himself to his family after his 100-day temporary work in Marseille between February and May. However, the critical situation in Montpellier convinced him to return to service. The club, currently last in Ligue 1 after a heavy 0-5 defeat against OM, has the worst defense in the championship.
Gasset succeeds Der Zakarian
This setback led to the dismissal of Michel Der Zakarian after 200 games at the head of the MHSC. Laurent Nicollin, president of the club, quickly chose Gasset to rectify the situation. Known for its proximity to Montpellier, Gasset is seen as a natural choice, in a club accustomed to using internal coaches. His new challenge will be to re-motivate a group in crisis, a mission even more difficult than the one he accomplished at OM. Gasset will once again have to rely on his human qualities to hope for positive change on the ground.
