(pm). The SG Rodheim Judoka Mazda Cup recently took place in Rodheim for the eighth time. The challenge cup tournament has always enabled young, inexperienced judoka to gain competitive experience in a relaxed setting while enjoying fair martial arts. This competition guarantees the children (unlike the traditional K.

above system) a medal and a certificate despite losing fights, as the points system is based on the number of fights. The judoka were able to compete in up to 30 fights on this day and collect points for the individual ranking.

Eight clubs were on the mat: In addition to TSG Falkenstein, SSV Sand Bad Emstal, SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil and the Büdingen gymnastics association, the judo clubs from Wüstems, Rockenberg, Neuenschmidten and the host SG Rodheim were at the start.

Dan holders (black belts) had to compete against young wild people because there was a free choice of partners. JC Neuenschmidten arrived as the defending champions of 2023. Participants and spectators were enthusiastic about the unusual judo tournament, not least because it was held in a friendly atmosphere by all the clubs involved, as SG Rodheim writes. Coaches from the clubs were on the mat as judges and had just as much fun.

After six hours of strenuous competition, the evaluation began. The athletes bridged the time by doing technical training together with all the coaches present. The club with the highest number of points was determined from all of the individual competitors’ points. The SG Rodheim judoka, who competed with a total of 20 athletes, many of whom were newcomers to the competition, managed to bring the challenge cup to Rodheim with over 1,570 points. Since the trophy went to the SGR for the fifth time, it will find a permanent place of honor in the hall. There is a new one for the next tournament.
