There is certainly a chance that Gernot Trauner will start in the starting line-up for Feyenoord in the Champions League match against Benfica on Wednesday. Trainer Brian Priske also opted for the Austrian at the back against Go Ahead Eagles (1-5) on Saturday as a replacement for the passed Thomas Beelen.

”Gernot is certainly here to compete. He is eligible for the starting line-up,” Priske emphasized on Tuesday at the press conference in the run-up to the European meeting with Benfica. ” Trauner did not complete the 90 minutes in Deventer.

Hugo Bueno dropped out against Go Ahead with a minor injury. The left back has nevertheless boarded a plane to Portugal and it is not impossible that the Argentinian full-back will be fit in time for the Champions League match against Benfica.

”The same applies to Hugo as Trauner. He has been working on his recovery in recent days and has not been on the field. But today (Tuesday, ed.) He is training and we will have to see how his foot reacts.”

If Bueno loses the race against time, Priske will probably choose Gijs Smal for the left back position. Central defender Dávid Hancko could possibly be moved to the left side of the defense.

Finally, Priske provides an update on players missing from Feyenoord’s selection. ”Nadje (Chris-Kévin Nadje, ed.) and Zechiël are still injured and will not make it to this match. We hope they make it to the away match against FC Utrecht.”

Feyenoord will visit the surprising number two in the Eredivisie this Sunday. The Rotterdam team, themselves the current number four, is currently six points behind Utrecht.
